For the past decade, the collective New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) has dedicated itself to nurturing the growth of new voices in contemporary art. For the 2024 edition of its annual New York art festival, held at 548 West in Chelsea’s gallery district, NADA is set to feature a robust selection of art pieces gathered from 92 galleries spanning 15 countries around the world with 34 exhibitors set to make their debut. As its community of art enthusiasts expands every year, the cultural hub continues to spearhead initiatives and events that spotlight up-and-coming talent, galleries, and curators alike.
This year NADA Projects will be dedicated to small-scale presentations. The fair will also host NADA Presents, a series of panels and performances dedicated to a range of topics such as art collecting, the correlation between mental health and creative expression, and more.
As part of a solo exhibition by Et al., an oil painting of New York’s skyscrapers in hues of brown, gray, and blue entitled Home, 2023, shows the city through the eyes of artist Will Yackulic. Some of the most imaginative small, glazed ceramic sculptures by artist Dorian Reed will be on display at Kapp Kapp’s booth. Known for her fascination with animals, cats in particular, the California-based multidisciplinary artist’s vibrant works encapsulate the energy of her chosen subjects.
For Curated Spotlight, a special section at the festival helmed by Simon Wu this year, abstract painter Kirsty Budge will present a collection of paintings for Daine Singer’s booth that echoes how her deep interest in philosophy and psychoanalysis intertwines with nature. With each piece evocative of eerie ambiguity, Budge’s dynamic compositions convey a multifaceted quest for meaning and attempt to frame the interconnectedness between past and present. Wu himself will share excerpts from his forthcoming collection of personal essays Dancing on My Own in conversation for NADA Presents with Hannah Traore, founder and director of her namesake gallery. The author delves into the hardship he has faced in the world of art creation and fashion and explores the complexities of identity politics.
As NADA continues to craft its love letter to New York every year, its tenth chapter just might be the most enchanting one yet amidst a rich palette of well-known and emerging talent and thought-provoking experiences.
NADA New York will run from May 2 to May 5, 2024 at 548 West 22nd Street, New York, NY 10011.
