In an unexpected pairing, Flos has released a reimagined version of its pioneering table lamp in collaboration with Bottega Veneta. The legacy lighting brand’s nimble design ensures natural and adaptable lighting, with a hooded, matte black encasing that ensconces the light bulb. The new twist? Its leather base has an updated motif: Bottega Veneta’s signature woven Intrecciato and Intreccio foulard patterns that wrap the lamp with a timeless warmth and luxury signature. This time, it is also available in small and large sizes and a variety of colorways including gray, emerald green, and the fashion house's recognizable fire engine red and bright green.
The original 1966 lighting fixture, the Model 600 table lamp, was first conceived by designer Gino Sarfatti before he later sold his company to Flos in 1973. The straightforward piece was impeccably shaped and anchored by a round stitched-leather base so its body could be readily adjusted to sit in a wide variety of angles and positions, like a person in a bean bag chair.
Founded the same year the lamp was designed, Bottega Veneta made its name with elegant and supple, high-quality leather creations. Now under the helm of creative director Matthieu Blazy, the Italian fashion house blends its original artisanal tradition with a modern vision. While it has released many leather products for the home, including laundry baskets, leather trays, and even woven decorative animals and playing card sets, this collaboration marks its first foray into lighting. In reimagining Sarfatti’s vision, Bottega Veneta and Flos pay homage to an ingenious model from a point of Italy’s design history where innovation and quality Italian leather craftsmanship boomed. Nearly 60 years later, it shows, the design remains modern as ever.
Bottega Veneta and Flos' special edition of Gino Sarfatti’s Model 600 table is available today on bottegeveneta.com and flos.com.
