Last week at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, models dressed in Alaïa’s Winter/Spring 2025 collection strutted down the iconic, spiraling Frank Lloyd Wright ramp. It marked the first time the fashion brand has shown in New York in 40 years—and its first ever museum fashion show, too. The collection featured soft peaches, pastel yellows, and ecru hues with tiny tops as well as cinched and puffer silhouettes. In addition to these sleek and nimble runway looks, a limited-edition ready-to-wear line was released immediately after the affair.
A selection of classic denim, T-shirts, caps, ballet flats, and the Le Teckel bag are available exclusively at Alaïa’s flagship store in Soho. Each item from the capsule collection is outfitted with a unique label commemorating the Guggenheim show—in which Anok Yai walked down the museum runway in an asymmetrical, slinky white dress with patent, cherry red heels, as her skirt flowed with each step she took. Another model appeared in a bubble dress covered in muted, arctic blue strings trickling down as if imitating raindrops. From runway to ready-to-wear, the sensibilities of the house’s late founder Azzedine Alaïa, whose designs earned him the title the “King of Cling,” appear timeless and agile under Pieter Mulier’s era.
Mulier’s Alaïa NYFW debut was not only a celebration of the house’s history of artful craftsmanship but also an ode to its ties to New York. And the contrast between high volume outerwear and sleek silhouettes captured the current mood while staying true to the brand’s DNA of elegance, precision, and innovation. Grounded in the moment, but tethered to its lineage, the collection was a testament to Alaïa’s evolving narrative under the Belgian creative director, blending art, architecture, and fashion into an unforgettable experience.
Alaïa's NYC capsule collection is available at Alaïa Soho at 149 Mercer St, New York, NY 10012.
