No cooking and little prep makes the pairing of crackers and cheese the quintessential city-dweller’s recipe. If you do it right, “it is a perfect meal,” says Patrick McGraw of this pairing that is often thought of as more of a snack. “If you get a raw cheese it can be very healthy too,” the New York-based writer tells Family Style of his cave-aged Gruyère of choice.

Ingredients

  • Wedge of cave-aged raw-milk Gruyère
  • Box of Z Crackers

Instructions

  1. Grab the cheese and crackers of your choice.
  2. Arrange and enjoy!

Location is everything—especially for LA renaissance man Harley Wertheimer. Be it the new setting of his contemporary art gallery or his revitalized Hollywood café a stone’s throw away, he sees spaces not for what they are but for what they could be.

Food

Finnish Sweet Buns

Traditionally served on Shrove Tuesday, this sweet, cardamom-flavored pastry never goes out of season for photographer Jukka Ovaskainen.
