In recent years, boots have gotten bigger and bolder, drawing from a wide range of influences. Viral versions have inflated in past seasons, taking design cues from everything from video games to adventure sports to science fiction. Enter UGG’s classic, lace-up Adirondack shoe, reimagined with a playful (and performance-forward) twist. Though the brand’s UGGExtreme capsule is right at home among its fashion peers, when it hits the slopes, it’s in a league of its own—with modular clothing to boot.
UGGextreme’s new winter footwear is the answer to the fashion industry’s desire for technical, purpose-driven design, with colorful models that easily transition from mountainsides to après ski. Take the Metropeak or Brecken Lace, for example. These classic boots’ ultra-technical materials keep out the cold in temperatures as low as -32 degrees Celsius. In the case of the Classic Tall TrailGazer, the classic UGG silhouette is rebuilt with the rubber outsole for enhanced traction. The secret? Gore-Tex, which lets water vapor and sweat escape while remaining completely waterproof from the outside. The invention—created in the late 1960s and popularized by mountaineering brands—slowly seeped into the realm of streetwear and fashion brands the like.
This season, UGG takes cues from Gore-Tex’s outdoorsy past as well as its sartorial second life. The result is boots that have it all: high-endurance capabilities built for those with personal style. Its outerwear follows suit: UGG’s Classic Mini Dipper Puffer, in black, white, and chestnut colorways, takes on the high-tech wear concept with detachable sleeves. Two versatile full-zip coats, the Emmalyn and Emette UGGfluff Puffer Jackets, are padded with recycled, synthetic down that feels like a hug, with added details like faux-suede shoulder panels and fleece-lined pockets. From the Swiss Alps to Aspen to Lake Tahoe to Joshua Tree, fashion and outdoor sports don’t exist in bubbles, and UGG’s new Extreme collection proves it.
