Starting today, Dover Street Market New York is selling milk. Yes, the dairy product. DSM’s Murray Hill outpost will go beyond its usual high fashion, high concept fare thanks to a collaboration between its in-store café Rose Bakery and Happier Grocery, Canal Street's one-stop shop for produce, flower bouquets, and rare collectibles. Until September 13, the independent retailer is offering a co-branded selection of dry goods, beverages, exclusive merchandise, and a designer menu with original treats from Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, and Melitta Baumeister.
Shelves are stocked with sweet and savory culinary products, including jalapeño rosemary almonds, dried mangos, chocolate, as well as a selection of fresh juices and the aforementioned milk. The limited-edition merch collection features hats, totes, and two T-shirts emblazoned with the logos of Happier Grocery and DSM. Fashion-forward snacks include a mochi donut by Marc Jacobs. The curated selection is also available on DSMNY’s online shop, as well as at Happier Grocery.
When DSM emerged 20 years ago on the streets of London, it reimagined what retail space could be by placing different designers’ pieces next to one another in a move at odds with conventional department store models—and brought in Rose Bakery on the ground floor. Now, the bakery is a mainstay at every location. In New York, the space—furnished with a massive patchwork beam, stainless steel cabinetry, and dining furniture fit for English school children—plays host to everything from product launches to magazine dinner parties to, now, an emporium for fashion week-fatigued looking for a refresh.
Tables are set. Inventory is lined up and folded. And this sartorial market provides everything a New Yorker might need between runway shows: a hoodie for after dark, the latest issue of Acne Paper for the train, and even lunch—or a pastry to eat on the go.
