New York’s Anonymous Gallery is launching a new space in Mexico City with an inaugural exhibition titled “Equis, Y Griega, Zeta (mx)” that runs until March 16, 2024. The exhibition centers on three generations of Mexican artists and their impact on both local and global art.
Located within walking distance of some of the city’s most esteemed contemporary art galleries, Anonymous’ Mexico City outpost’s inaugural exhibition highlights works across a variety of mediums. First organized in New York City, “Equis, Y Griega, Zeta (mx)” features a small but significant group of artists, including Miguel Calderón, who is regarded as a seminal figure in Mexico’s independent art scene, and Samuel Guerrero, an emerging artist who challenges the boundaries of the city’s art and culture scene.
The artists featured grapple with a spectrum of themes ranging from the inadequacies of healthcare and the traditions of didactic theater to interplays between the natural and the artificial. “Equis, Y Griega, Zeta (mx)” cements Anonymous Gallery’s ties to Mexico City while pushing the boundaries of contemporary art.
Established in 2008 by Joseph Henrikson, Anonymous has showcased the works of notable contemporary artists including Andy Warhol, Richard Prince, Cindy Sherman, and Charles Atlas. The opening of its new location is also born from Henrikson’s own experiences in the city’s artistic evolution. Mexico City is rapidly emerging as one of the world’s most vibrant and lively art scenes and has drawn the attention of the international art world. Beyond its premier art fairs including Zona Maco, Material Art Fair, Salón ACME, and Unique Design X Mexico City—which are all being held this week—Mexico City has witnessed an influx of global galleries eager to be a part of the city’s ever-evolving cultural landscape.
“Equis, Y Griega, Zeta (mx)” is on view until March 16, 2024 at Anonymous Gallery at C. Gobernador Ignacio Esteva 44.
